Standard mower blades feature a smaller upward-angled trailing fin (or sail) than hi-lift blades.
This means they will use less power than hi-lift mulching blades, but in the right application (shorter, drier mowing conditions) they will still leave an excellent finish cut.
 
Mulching blades feature multiple cutting surfaces and curved angles designed to work in conjunction with the deck baffle kit to cut grass multiple times.
Grass clippings will be cut into fine pieces and dropped back into the root stock of the turf as where they will quickly break down, returning their nutrients to the soil.
Because they cut the grass multiple times they usually use more power than regular blades, but in the right application (minimal reduction maintenance mowing) they will leave the best finish.
